About
Hi There!
My name is Nicole Willoughby, and I am a horticulturist dedicated to cultivating healthy, vibrant plant life and the spaces that support it.
I work closely with plants—growing, nurturing, and studying them, to ensure they thrive within
their environments while creating welcoming, engaging green spaces for the people who enjoy them.

In 2024, I founded Nature Knacks to bring together my technical expertise, creative background, and lifelong connection to plants. Nature Knacks was created to provide thoughtful, sustainable horticultural solutions that enhance both natural ecosystems and the built environment, from designing thoughtful plant layouts to experimenting with sustainable growing techniques. Through this work, I aim to support long-term plant health while strengthening the relationship between people and the green spaces around them.
I completed a three-year certificate program in Horticulture through the Barnes Arboretum at St. Joseph's University, a professional certificate in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) from Michigan State University, I am an ISA-Certified Arborist PD-3209A, and hold a Seed Dealer License (PAPlants ID 00D28Y). With over five years of professional experience in the field, I bring a strong blend of practical, technical, and analytical expertise to my work. I am currently expanding my skill set by pursuing certification as a Green Roof Professional through the Green Roofs for Healthy Cities program, as well as a certificate in Purdue University's Urban Agriculture program.
Before entering the field of horticulture, I received my Bachelor’s from SUNY Oswego, double majoring in Broadcasting & Mass Communications and Creative Writing, initially pursuing screenwriting and copywriting. Growing up surrounded by the gardens of my parents and grandparents and immersed in various art forms, I developed a deep appreciation for both storytelling and design. Naturally, I have found my craft in plants—using creativity, technical knowledge, and hands-on skills to bring meaningful greenery into the built environment and enhance the well-being of the communities it serves.
